| | Celebrating One Year Since We Expanded at Barbas Cremer! |
| August marked one year since Managing Partner Jake Cremer and his team of four others joined Barbas Cremer, expanding the services and resources we’re able to offer clients across land use, environmental, and development matters. It’s been a BIG year, and we’re incredibly grateful to our clients, colleagues, family, friends, and community for your support along the way. We’ve been busy, so we wanted to take a moment to celebrate a few highlights from our first year: |
| | Most importantly, this year has been about building something stronger together. We’re proud of how far we’ve come and even more excited about what’s ahead! |
| | | Four years into the Live Local era, Florida has passed more housing legislation than in the previous few decades combined. At the Florida Housing Coalition’s annual conference, Jake Cremer joined a panel discussion examining what that means for Florida’s housing and growth management landscape. |
| Rather than falling into the familiar divide between local government, development, and housing advocates, the conversation focused on a shared concern: Florida’s current growth management system is not working as well as it should. |
| Thank you to Kody Glazer for moderating, and to Rebecca O’Hara, Robert Walters, and Elizabeth Abernethy, AICP, for bringing thoughtful perspectives to the conversation. |
| | | On October 6, the City of Tampa unveiled a historic marker at 1505 E. Palm Avenue in Ybor City, honoring the 1929 building that was once home to six fraternal lodges and later became the Centro Español medical clinic and pharmacy known as La Benéfica Española. Over nearly a century, the building also served as the home of La Gaceta, Tampa’s historic trilingual newspaper, as well as a ballroom and college facility. |

| The occasion held a special connection to our firm. Terin Barbas Cremer’s great-grandfather, Dr. Carlos Barbas, was a prominent Tampa and Ybor City physician who with her great grandmother, Delia Barbas, a nurse and midwife, helped found La Benéfica Española, making the recognition a meaningful piece of her family’s history and roots in the community. |
| | Now part of the City of Tampa’s historic designation, the marker helps preserve the story of a place that has been part of Ybor City for nearly a century. We’re honored to see a piece of that history, and a piece of the Barbas family story, recognized and preserved for generations to come! |
